IV Rooms

maître d' station

The Maître d' and maître d' station are the face of our restaurant. So it’s important it has a bold and elegant impact.
I’ve been playing with fun ways of framing the Maître d' that use elements are unique to our location.

Design principles:
Incorporating existing elements. Our location features many immovable elements, so to create a cohesive visual theme i’ve tried to keep additional dressing in the same pallet. Making possible flaws into decided features.

Heritage safe. As our location is heritage listed, all concepts must avoid destructive installation (drilling, glueing, cutting, painting, etc.)

The immovable marble topped table is aligned to the left side of a large grey wall, which has some damage on it (hidden by the spice trader logo).
So throughout the plans I’ve off-set the BG dressing to match the table, which visually centres it in the space.

All set dressings must fit in the elevator, or be carried up the firestairs. So all concepts on this page are designed with easy assembly/disassembly in mind.

Brass Slats with BIG HEART (draft)

This look incorporates the immovable gold/brass slatted dividers found around the restaurant. They are clean and fit the aesthetic of the room, but is a lot of vertical lines, so unless we made it a theme and matched the IV rooms, i’d say this is the least interesting of the options.

Second image: Draft concept IV room to match.

  • Colour Matched gold/brass slats are evenly spaced behind the matre’d.

  • The neon heart is suspended behind the matre’d.

  • The heart pictured is 1200mm wide, matching the IV rooms.

  • Footlights can be added to send spotlights up the wall for added dimension.

Brass Slats with outward SPREAD

  • Colour Matched gold/brass slats are evenly spaced behind the matre’d.

  • Three additional slats are added on each side with an incremental gap, to draw the eye inwards.

  • The neon heart is suspended behind the matre’d.

  • The heart pictured is 1000mm wide, down from 1200mm used in the IV rooms.

  • Two hidden footlights send spotlights up the wall for added dimension.

Brass Slats with Gold BeamS

This look incorporates the brass slatted dividers with gold vertical beams featured around the bar area itself.

  • Colour Matched gold/brass slats are evenly spaced behind the matre’d.

  • Two large brass/gold beams sandwich the evenly spaced slats to create a visual panel.

  • Three additional slats are added on each side with an incremental gap, to draw the eye inwards.

  • The heart pictured is 1000mm wide, down from 1200mm used in the IV rooms.

  • Two hidden footlights send spotlights up the wall for added dimension.

SET DRESSING OPTIONS

If we aren’t a fan of the vertical lines, we can go with a less styalised look incorporating curtains, furniture, or artworks. These dressing elements need to hug the wall, as the immovable table limits the footprint of items behind the maitre d’.
